  • Request for BIDS – Winter Ice Sand: The Town of Castine seeks bids for Winter Ice Sand. Bid forms are available here, by email at townoffice@castine.me.us, and at the Town Office at 67 Court Street in Castine. Bids are due by 3:00 pm, Friday, October 11, 2019.   • Property Taxes: Taxes were due on Fri, Sept 20th. Interest is now accruing starting Sept 21st. Please call the Town Office at 207-326-4502 for a payoff. Postmarks accepted.
  • Town Office CLOSED: Wednesday, October 2nd & Thursday, October 3rd due to the Annual Maine Municipal Association Convention.
    Monday, October 14th due to the Columbus Day Holiday.
  • Curbside Fall & Winter Recycling Program: The Fall/Winter schedule will be in effect starting Tuesday, 10/1 and Wednesday, 10/16 (due to the Columbus Day Holiday); the First & Third Tuesday’s of each month.
  • LED Light Switch: LED light switch will take place starting September 20th or Monday, September 23rd and should be completed within 7days. You can view the schedule on the Home Page or under the Community News Page, Town FaceBook page or obtain a copy at the Town Office.
  • Town Road Projects: the Town is taking care of several small road projects over the next few weeks. Expect temporary parking restrictions in these area during the work. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconveniences.
  • Golf Cart NOTICE: Golf Carts are NOT Department of Transportation compliant and cannot be registered for travel on public roads.
  • Town Reports: the 221st edition of the Annual Town Report are available to be picked up at the Town Office.
  • 2019 Dog Registrations are now PAST DUE. A $25 late fee is applied to registration fee as Feb 1, 2019.
  • 2020 Dog Registrations: available as of October 15, 2019. $6 for Spayed/Neutered dog or $11 for Non-spayed/Non-neutered dog.
  • Castine’s newly adopted Salt/Sand Shed Public Use Policy…please review Salt-Sand Shed Public Use Policy
  • Please make sure your trash is put out curbside by 7:30AM to ensure pick-up. Also – Please make sure the trash you put out is protected from critters (closed trash can or under a tarp, old blanket/sheet). Our Public Works crew will not pick-up scattered debris.

  • Fall Harvest Dinner Tuesday, October 8  6:00 pm - 8:00 pm The Watermark

    To celebrate the season, the Castine Historical Society is hosting a Fall Harvest Dinner. The evening will feature a three-course dinner with two wine courses to be held at Markel’s Watermark at 6:00 p.m. on October 8th. Tickets for the event are $75 per person. Reservations are requested by October 1st and seating is limited.

    The evening will begin with a cash bar and time to socialize. Following cocktails there will be a three-course dinner of gourmet food prepared by Kelly and Mark Sawyer, the owners of Markel’s Watermark. Carefully chosen wines will accompany the first and entrée courses. Keeping with the night’s theme of the fall harvest, entrees include a choice of Creole scallops, braised beef short ribs or a vegetarian entrée of spaghetti squash over polenta.

  • Home & Away Program Friday, October 11  10:00 am - 1:00 pm Wilson Museum Hutchins Education Center

    Back by popular demand, the Home & Away homeschool program by the Wilson Museum will return on October 11 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.). Structured for ages 4 to 14, each three-hour session is inspired by the Museum's worldwide collection and local history as well as the community's educational resources. Included will be a break for lunch (please bring your own). Some sessions will include a local field trip and some sessions will include a guest presenter.

    Reservations are required ($10 per child) in advance of each session and space is limited. Reserve a spot up to three weeks before each month's session or sign-up in September for a seven-session series pass at $70 per child. Only six series passes are available. Make reservations and get your pass by calling 207-326-9247 or by emailing [email protected]

    Home & Away will occur on the second Friday of each month from October through April. Unless otherwise noted, sessions will begin in the Wilson Museum's Hutchins Education Center located at 112 Perkins Street, Castine, ME.
